When prospective undergraduate students and their families visit The University of Iowa campus, current UI students Vince Geis, Erica Miller, and Kristina McLaughlin are usually among the team of Admissions employees on hand to welcome them. The three current students are gaining on-the-job experience while helping the Office of Admissions share the perspective of current students with campus visitors.
As “Student Admission Representatives,” Vince, Erica, and Kristina have duties similar to that of an Admission Counselor. They present the Iowa Overview information session for visiting students and parents, help our office carry out other types of on-campus visit programs, and they also participate in some of our off-campus recruitment programs, events, and activities.
We believe the students provide a student-to-student communication that families find helpful and authentic. Also, the work helps the students financially while they gain experience for possible future careers in the world of college admissions.
