As our Hawkeyes enjoy a break from classes this week, we wanted to take a moment to give our thanks for our tremendous class of first-year students here at Iowa.
The University of Iowa Class of 2023 is approaching the completion of their first semester here in Iowa City. They entered the university as the most academically accomplished class in school history.
The Class of 2023 boasted a 3.76 average high school GPA, along with average ACT scores of 25.5. The 4,986 undergraduate students in the Class of 2023 came from 94 Iowa counties, 42 U.S. states, and 38 different countries. Iowa residents made up about 56% (2,776) of the class. Around 22% (1,092) of the class are first-generation students. About 20% (987) identify as African American, American Indian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Asian, Latino(a), or two or more ethnicities.
This year, 23,482 undergraduates are enrolled at the UI. Total enrollment this fall is 31,240 students. Graduate students total 5,900, and professional students total 1,858.
