As our Hawkeyes enjoy a break from classes this week, we wanted to take a moment to give our thanks for our tremendous class of first-year students here at Iowa.
The University of Iowa Class of 2023 is approaching the completion of their first semester here in Iowa City.
The Fiske Guide to Colleges has named the University of Iowa a “Best Buy” for 2020.
It is the 15th straight year that the University of Iowa has been recognized with the distinction. Only 10 public universities made the list this year.
The creation of a former New York Times education editor, the Fiske Guide has been a respected college search tool used by parents, college-bound students, and their guidance counselors for 30 years.
Many first-year Hawkeyes get an early start on college by taking college courses in high school and then wish to apply those credits to their University of Iowa degree.
The University of Iowa does accept transfer credits for students who take college courses in high school, as well as credit earned through several exams offered by Advanced Placement Program (AP), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate Program (IB), and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
Visiting campus is the best way to make an informed college choice, so we make it easy for students and families to meet the people at Iowa, ask questions, and take look around. We offer a variety of program options; check them out and encourage your students to register soon, as space may be limited for some events.

-Students can submit their Orientation reservation through their Admissions Profile on MyUI. Students are only invited once they accept our offer of admission and pay the $250 acceptance fee.

The University of Iowa welcomed a new vice president for student life this fall.
Melissa Shivers came to the UI after 20 years of experience serving students at the University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, Clemson University, and Georgia Southern University. She started in July following the retirement of Tom Rocklin, who served the University of Iowa in various capacities for more than 30 years.
The University of Iowa is announcing several changes to scholarships effective in fall 2018. Note: scholarships are subject to change each admission cycle.
The changes include the addition of a new Iowa resident scholarship, monetary adjustments for resident and non-resident scholarships, and updates to University of Iowa scholarship policy.
