The University of Iowa Honors Program has updated its eligibility requirements. The changes will affect current students this year and prospective students entering at any point after the Summer 2016 session.
First-year students will now need a high school GPA of 3.8 or higher and an ACT composite of 30 or above to be invited to join Honors at Iowa. Students who do not meet those requirements have the option to request selective admission to the program. Students wishing to apply for selective admission to the UI Honors Program must submit a personal statement, letter of recommendation, and a copy of their high school transcript to be considered.
Entering first-year students who do meet the eligibility requirements for Honors at Iowa will receive an email invitation to join the program. Eligible students do not become members of Honors at Iowa until they have accepted membership.
Incoming transfer students must have at least 24 semester hours of college transfer credit and a 3.50 overall college GPA or above to be eligible for admission to Honors. Transfer students who have fewer than 24 semester hours of college coursework will need to meet the admission standards for first-year students AND have a 3.50 overall college GPA to be invited to join Honors.
Current UI students will now need at least a 3.50 UI GPA to earn their way into the Honors program. All Honors students need to maintain a UI GPA minimum of 3.33 to remain in good standing in the program.
