Several scholarship changes affecting transfer and first-year University of Iowa students for summer 2015 and beyond will make paying for an education at Iowa even easier. The changes include monetary increases to three scholarships, increased eligibility for two scholarships, and the creation of a new award.
- The Old Gold Scholarship has been increased from $3,000 a year to $5,000 a year for four years. First-year students with at least a 30 ACT and a 3.8 GPA automatically receive the award upon admission.
- The Iowa Scholars Award Level I increased from $2,000 a year for four years to $3,500 a year for four years. Students receiving the Level I award must have at least a 27 ACT and 3.8 GPA or at least a 30 ACT and 3.7 GPA.
- The Iowa Scholars Award Level II criteria has changed to a minimum 25 ACT and 3.2 GPA. First year students meeting those requirements will now be awarded $2,000 a year for four years, an increase of $1,000 per year.*
- Iowa residents will now be eligible for the Iowa Heritage Award, which gives $1,500 a year for up to four years to incoming first-year students who have a parent, stepparent, legal guardian, or grandparent who graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree. Incoming transfer students can also receive the $1,500 award for up to two years. To be eligible, transfer students must have a 2.5 cumulative transfer GPA at the time of their application to Iowa.
- A new scholarship, the Iowa Boost Award, will now be available to Iowa residents who receive the federal Pell Grant through the federal student aid process. The Iowa Boost Award will give $1,000 a year for up to four years to first-year applicants who are awarded the federal Pell Grant after completing their FAFSA.
*If students qualify for both levels of the Iowa Scholars Award, they will receive the Level I Award.
