University Housing & Dining released an online housing application in late November that includes several new features for students planning to live on campus.
One of the most notable features is a voluntary roommate-matching resource. Students answer a series of lifestyle-related questions ranging from “What time do you go to bed?” and “How clean do you keep your room?” to “What temperature do you like to keep your room?” and “Do you like to study with background noise?” Then they have the opportunity to connect with other future students who provided similar responses.
The new application asks students to identify their preferred room type and campus neighborhood.
There also are new living-learning community options for first-year students, including the pre-med community for students interested in studying medicine, and the Spectrum House, dedicated to promoting inclusion and awareness for individuals across the gender and sexuality spectrum. More communities will continue to be added each year.
Students can return to their online housing application to make changes to their preferences and connect with other possible matches until mid-May, when housing assignments will begin to be made. Housing assignments will be emailed to students in early summer, before many students come to campus for Orientation.
The Housing & Dining application is available for students to complete once they are offered admission to the university. The housing application requires a $50 nonrefundable application fee, and students are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible.
Each year, more than 90 percent of first-year students choose to live on campus in the university’s 10 residence halls.
