UI adds new areas of study

Introducing Public Policy, Leadership, Arabic, Cultural Competence The University of Iowa has recently added several new academic programs to its lineup of more than 100 areas of study for undergraduate students. The school now offers a BA in Ethics & Public Policy, a certificate in Critical Cultural Competence, a certificate in Leadership Studies, and a minor Arabic.

General Education Program changes

Changes affect students in liberal arts and business The University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the UI Tippie College of Business are making changes to their General Education Program requirements. The changes will be effective beginning with students enrolling for Summer Session 2011.

Center's programming creates welcoming atmosphere For the last four years, The University of Iowa’s Center for Diversity & Enrichment (CDE) has provided programs that strive to create a welcoming climate for students from communities traditionally underrepresented in higher education, including minority, first-generation, and low-income students.

Parklawn to house transfer students

Reopened residence hall to serve returning & transfer students Beginning in the fall of 2010, Parklawn Residence Hall will house Community 234, a program developed to provide a living experience tailored for returning and transfer students. Room options will include 1-bedroom and studio “apartments” with double occupancy.

Kathryne Bassett retires

Senior Associate Director steps down after decades on the job After nearly 34 years at Iowa, Kathy Bassett is retiring in June. Kathy was the University’s fourth admission counselor when she joined the staff in 1976. After five years in that role, she spent a year processing applications and appeals as the assistant to the associate director of admissions, then moved on to become the coordinator of high school/college relations. She’s worked in out- reach services ever since.
