The school now offers a BA in Ethics & Public Policy, a certificate in Critical Cultural Competence, a certificate in Leadership Studies, and a minor Arabic.
Bachelor of Arts in Ethics & Public Policy—This interdisciplinary major focuses on how philosophy, sociology, and economics affect social structures such as legal proceedings and the criminal justice system. With its focus on critical thinking and problem solving, it could be an ideal major for students eyeing graduate school in law, public heath, public planning, or politics.
Certificate in Critical Cultural Competence—This certificate provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to increase their effectiveness in relating across cultures in diverse environments. Students in such fields as social work, psychology, health, education, communications, and business may find the certificate especially beneficial.
Certificate in Leadership Studies—Both academic course work and leadership- related service learning or experiential learning are requirements for this certificate, which will focus on introducing students to the concepts of leadership while giving them hands-on experiences to begin the life- long development of these skills.
Minor in Arabic—Available through the Department of French and Italian, a minor in Arabic requires 15 semester hours of courses— taught in Arabic—at the intermediate level or higher. Credit from the Iowa Regents’ Summer Program in Fez, Morocco, may be counted toward the minor.
