The University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) has approved a new General Education requirement in Diversity and Inclusion for students graduating with a baccalaureate degree from CLAS.
CLAS students entering the University of Iowa during the summer of 2017 and beyond will need to complete the 3 semester requirement.
The Diversity and Inclusion general education area explores the benefits and challenges of diversity, including the historical bases of inequality. Students will reflect on their own social and cultural perspectives while increasing their ability to engage with those who have backgrounds or ideas different from their own. Most courses will be discussion based and will provide students with the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of social and cultural differences.
